Wrestling Roundup: Notre Dame, Prospect Shine In Tournaments

Notre Dame, Prospect and Buffalo Grove all had stellar weeks in wrestling to lead the Journal-area. Check out how they did and how the other area teams did this last week.

Rex Lewis Invite (at Buffalo Grove): Lawrence Central (190.5), Neuqua Valley (190), St. Patrick (156), Lake Zurich (126), Buffalo Grove (110), Larkin (98), Morris (94), Thornton Fractional South (76), Glenbrook South (68), South Milwaukee (54), St. Viator (44), DePaul College Prep (39), Elk Grove (26)Roundup: Buffalo Grove’s Jon Toriumi upset the field at 160 lbs. to claim the title going 4-0. Toriumi entered the tournament 4-6 overall, but upset St. Patrick’s Dan Baker (14-0 entering his match against Toriumi) on his way to the title. Bison teammate Sam Haro won by a 6-3 OT decision over Lake Zurich’s William Busse to win the 195-lb. title. Haro went 3-0 to improve to 11-2 on the season. Buffalo Grove’s Jake Greenberg went 1-1 to finish second at 113 lbs. St. Viator’s Elijah Black won the 152-lb. championship going 3-0 to improve to 10-0 in his freshman season. Glenbrook South didn’t have any top-two finishes, but did place three in third place. Ethan Bond (132 lbs., 16-3 record), Edgar Borun (195 lbs., 14-5) and Majdi Khatib (285 lbs., 16-3) all earned third place finishes for GBS. Elk Grove’s Genio Hyppolite (145 lbs., 9-4 record) finished in third place giving the Grenadiers their best finish of the night.
